All Saints Parish has a strong music ministry, with a number of talented parishioners serving in a variety of roles. Parish music director, Tim Cahalan, and head organist, Susan Cahalan, have served in those roles since the consolidated parish’s inception in 1985. Additional organists, Paul Kroeger and Kim Bowen, as well as several of our cantors and choir members, have also served either from the very beginning or nearly so, while other cantors and choir members have joined the ministry more recently. All Saints is fortunate to have had in recent years a number of outstanding young cantors as well, including several very fine high school singers currently serving in this role.
All Saints currently has two choirs ministering at our English-language masses. The All Saints Choir shares its music at approximately three of the four masses each month, rotating between the 4:30, 8:00, and 10:00 masses, with their season running from September through mid-June. They rehearse in the choir loft on Wednesday evenings. The members of this group have ranged in age from middle-school students through senior citizens, with their shared love of music their common bond. They hope that their music effectively ministers to the congregation, but are certain of how it positively impacts their own lives. New members are always welcome and needed!
Our second ensemble is the All Saints Folk Choir, which sings with piano and guitar accompaniment at the 10:00 mass two or three times monthly. This group’s membership is primarily middle and high school aged young people, with adult vocal and instrumental leadership. As with our fine young cantors, several of which also sing with this group, our parish is fortunate to have so many truly talented young singers participating in this group’s ministry.
The members of both choirs very much enjoy the music-making and the fellowship that comes with being a member of a choir, as well as, of course, the sense of contributing in a special way to our weekend liturgies. If you enjoy singing, and especially if you have participated in either a school or church choir in the past, we’d love to have you join us!
